Arjun & Meera · Today's brief
The most important thing on the board today is Anthropic's IPO filing. According to ET Tech's October 27 report, the company has filed papers setting up a Wall Street debut next month, ahead of rival OpenAI and months after SpaceX's $86 billion listing. For a builder, the signal is less about one valuation and more about the window opening: frontier AI companies are moving from private capital to public markets, which will shape how the AI tooling you build on is priced, governed and disclosed. If you depend on foundation-model APIs, expect more formal reporting, pricing discipline and roadmap scrutiny from here on.
The funding flow underneath that story is worth reading closely. BioStack raised $9.5 million in a seed round led by Peak XV Partners to build training datasets for medical AI, a reminder that the scarce asset in vertical AI is often clean, domain-specific data rather than model access. Unacademy cofounders Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini are raising ₹700 crore for Longshot Capital, a Category II AIF backing AI and deeptech startups, which suggests that founders who have already scaled consumer businesses are now recycling their networks and capital into the next wave. Matiks, meanwhile, took $10 million in a pre-Series A led by General Catalyst to take its puzzle platform global, a sign that Indian gaming companies with a clear international thesis are still able to attract marquee investors.
The regulatory and distribution threads matter too. MediaNama reports that Google can use data from Gmail, Drive and Photos for ad personalisation, but only under certain conditions. Any product team that relies on ad platforms or lives inside Google's ecosystem should read the fine print on consent and data use, because platform rules tend to tighten the cost of getting personalisation wrong. On the commerce side, former Flipkart employees have written to Walmart's board seeking liquidity on stock options granted a decade or more ago, which is a quiet but telling signal about how long Indian internet companies have stayed private and how talent expectations have shifted. In fintech, NBFCs now account for 43% of retail loan originations as banks stay selective, with gold loans and consumer durable finance leading the growth. Lenders that can underwrite specialised segments without bank-level caution are capturing share, and that opening is one builders in credit infrastructure should be tracking closely.
What to watch this week: whether Anthropic's public filing details confirm the revenue trajectory behind the valuation talk, and whether Imarticus follows through on its confidential DRHP filing timeline. For builders, the practical move is to audit your dependence on any single AI vendor and your data-consent flows against the Google policy changes before they reach your roadmap.
Social gaming platform Matiks has raised $10 Mn (₹95.1 Cr) in a Pre-Series A round led by General Catalyst. Ronnie Screwvala, Info Edge Ventures, Tanglin Venture Partners and Untitled Ventures also participated. The startup will use the money to expand globally, add new games, deepen engineering and AI investment, and build an AI engine that lets users publish their own games without code. It claims about 3 Lakh daily active users.
Imarticus Learning plans to file its DRHP with SEBI confidentially within two to three months for a ₹1,000 Cr IPO, up from the ₹750 Cr issue planned earlier. Proceeds would fund acquisitions, new Centres of Excellence, school expansion and its B2B business. The plan follows its ₹800 Cr acquisition of Singapore's BELLS Institute of Higher Learning. Inc42 has sought comment from the company.
ET Tech reports on October 27, 2026 that Anthropic filed papers setting up a Wall Street debut next month, ahead of rival OpenAI and months after SpaceX's $86 billion IPO in June. Builders relying on frontier model APIs should watch how a public listing changes pricing disclosures, rate limits and enterprise terms.
AI healthtech platform BioStack has raised $9.5 Mn (₹90.4 Cr) in a seed round led by Peak XV Partners, Afore Capital, DCVC and others. Founded in 2025, it combines fragmented clinical data into datasets for research and medical AI training. The startup says it has processed 10 Cr de-identified patient records and works with hospitals in the US, Brazil and Argentina. It will expand internationally and hire.
Unacademy cofounders Gaurav Munjal and Roman Saini are raising ₹700 Cr for Longshot Capital, a Category II AIF backing AI and deeptech startups. It has secured commitments of around ₹250-300 Cr and targets a first close in January 2027. The fund plans to back 25-28 seed and pre-Series A startups with initial cheques of $500,000 to $1.5 Mn and an 8-12% stake.
Former Flipkart employees have written to Walmart's board asking for liquidity on stock options granted 10 to 15 years ago. The ET Tech Full Stack newsletter examines why Walmart may prefer to keep Flipkart private for now.
Mint reports on October 27, 2026 that Garena's Indian YouTube channels were renamed Free Fire India Official and Free Fire India Esports, with creators citing October 28, 2026 as a possible launch, though Garena has not confirmed. Consumer app teams should treat this as a signal for re-engagement campaigns and watch for an official announcement before planning around it.
Google can use data from Gmail, Drive and Photos to personalise ads, but only under certain conditions, according to MediaNama. The report says the policy comes with a catch that affects how users' personal data feeds ad targeting.
NBFCs now capture 43% of retail loan originations in India as banks stay cautious in lending. Gold loans and consumer durable finance are driving the growth. NBFCs are also gaining in vehicle loans and credit outside the prime banking segment. Concerns over asset quality and rising competition with banks remain.
