Vaishnaw sets October 2028 target for India's own smartphone brand

IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw set October 23, 2028, as the target for India to launch its own smartphone brand with domestic design, manufacturing and intellectual property. He announced the goal at the NDTV World Summit on October 23, 2026. Vaishnaw said an Indian company had already designed and supplied a 5G phone to a major US telecom operator. The government has not yet revealed the brand name, specifications or price.
