super.money's FY26: Rs 1.91 spent per rupee earned, and why

In one line

super.money is the fifth-largest UPI app by volume with 1.68% of transactions and 0.67% of value, earns nearly 85% of its revenue from a loan marketplace, and spent Rs 1.91 for every rupee it earned in FY26: UPI is the funnel, credit is the business, and the burn only works with Flipkart behind it.

What happened

Flipkart's payments and credit app super.money filed FY26 numbers that Entrackr pulled apart on 19 October. Operating revenue more than tripled to Rs 292 crore from Rs 89 crore. Net loss widened 78% to Rs 264 crore from Rs 148 crore. Total expenditure rose 130% to Rs 557 crore, of which marketing was Rs 341 crore, about 61% of all spending and more than the year's entire revenue. Employee costs were Rs 139 crore, up 75%.

Where the revenue comes from is the useful part. The loan marketplace contributed Rs 248 crore, nearly 85% of operating revenue; the rest came from other activities. In September the app processed 405.14 million UPI transactions worth Rs 19,613.29 crore, 1.68% of UPI volume and 0.67% of value, which makes it the fifth-largest UPI app by volume. Volume share is two and a half times value share: small-ticket payments, used to acquire people who are then offered loans.

The company spent Rs 1.91 for every rupee it earned and ran an EBITDA margin of -85.43%. Cash and bank balances were Rs 63 crore at the end of March 2026 against a Rs 264 crore annual loss, so the model depends on more money from its backer, Flipkart. It has since launched splitStore, an in-app marketplace with zero-interest instalments shipped through Flipkart's logistics, and hired Rohan Khara from BharatPe as chief product officer in September.

What it means for builders

1. UPI is a funnel, not a business; design the credit offer as the product from day one

super.money has 1.68% of UPI transactions but earns nearly 85% of its Rs 292 crore revenue from the loan marketplace, Rs 248 crore. The payments app exists to put a credit offer in front of people who have just shown their bank balance and spending pattern. If you are building a payments front end in India, the question is not how to monetise payments (NPCI has made that close to impossible at zero MDR) but which credit, insurance or savings product you can underwrite from the payment data, and which partner carries the balance sheet. Build the offer surface and the consent flow for that before you build the tenth payment feature.

2. Rs 1.91 per rupee is a cashback-led growth model; copy the funnel, not the burn

Marketing of Rs 341 crore exceeded revenue of Rs 292 crore, and the net loss of Rs 264 crore sits against Rs 63 crore of cash. That ratio only works when a parent like Flipkart writes the next cheque. An independent fintech should run the same funnel (UPI habit, then credit) but set a payback rule in the product: no acquisition spend on a cohort beyond what its loan-marketplace revenue returns in 12 months. Measure first-transaction rate and the share of UPI users who see and accept a credit offer, because those two numbers decide whether cashback is an investment or a subsidy.

3. Small-ticket volume share is cheap to win and worth little on its own; value share is what partners price

Volume share of 1.68% against value share of 0.67% means super.money's average transaction is well under half of UPI's average: small, frequent payments that build a habit. That habit is valuable only when it feeds the loan marketplace. For builders this is a warning about vanity leaderboards: NPCI's monthly volume ranking will put you on a list, but lenders, insurers and acquirers who might partner with you look at value per user and repeat rate. Report both, and tie acquisition targets to value share and credit conversion rather than transaction counts.

Who should act

  • Founders and PMs of payments and neobank apps — The revenue mix shows what a UPI-first app can and cannot monetise, and what the credit layer has to look like.
  • Growth teams running cashback and referral spend — A 12-month payback rule per cohort is the difference between super.money's model with Flipkart's cheque and the same model without it.
  • Lending partners and NBFCs evaluating distribution apps — Volume share overstates what a payments app brings; value share and credit conversion are the numbers to ask for.

This week

  • Split your revenue dashboard the way the filing does: payments, loan marketplace, other. If credit is under half, write the plan to get it to half.
  • Set a cohort payback cap for acquisition spend: cashback per cohort must be covered by that cohort's credit and cross-sell revenue within 12 months.
  • Add value share and average ticket to any UPI volume report you send investors or partners.
  • Read the first-transaction rate guide linked below and instrument the UPI-to-credit-offer funnel as named events.

Questions people ask

How does super.money make money?

Mostly from its loan marketplace: Rs 248 crore of Rs 292 crore operating revenue in FY26, nearly 85%. UPI payments bring users and data; credit offers to those users bring revenue.

Is super.money profitable?

No. FY26 net loss was Rs 264 crore on Rs 292 crore of revenue, with marketing spend of Rs 341 crore and an EBITDA margin of -85.43%, per Entrackr's reading of the filings.

What should a smaller fintech copy from this?

The funnel: a payment habit that produces the data to underwrite a credit offer. Not the burn: without a parent like Flipkart, acquisition spend has to pay back from the credit layer within a year.
