Indian startups raised $184 Mn in 17 deals: what founders should read

In one line

AI took half the week's money, but one $48 Mn seed round was most of it; the rounds that stood out came with usage numbers, named customers or debt in the mix.

What happened

Indian startups raised over $184 Mn across 17 deals in the third week of October, down 22% from $236.2 Mn the week before. The number of deals fell 32% from 25. AI led for a second week with $93.9 Mn across six deals. Healthtech raised $60.6 Mn across two.

The biggest rounds: Even Healthcare's $50 Mn Series B led by Khosla Ventures; Different's $48 Mn seed round led by General Catalyst; AuxoAI's $20.7 Mn Series A; Firstwork's $15 Mn Series A; and The Pant Project's $11.5 Mn Series B. CureBay raised $10.6 Mn in a pre-Series C round that, like Chapter Homes and TravClan, mixed equity and debt. Trifecta Capital and Blume Ventures did two deals each.

One of the smaller AI rounds carried the clearest signal. Hunar.AI, which runs AI voice agents for frontline hiring, raised Rs 40 crore ($4.2 Mn) led by Blume. Entrackr estimates its valuation rose over 71% to Rs 180 crore. Its FY25 operating revenue was Rs 1.70 crore against losses of Rs 5.56 crore, but its agents handled more than 1.5 crore conversations till September 2026.

What it means for builders

1. Read the AI total as one big cheque plus small ones

AI raised $93.9 Mn across six deals, but Different's $48 Mn seed round was about half of it. The other five AI rounds shared the rest. If you are an AI founder setting a raise target, compare yourself with rounds at your stage and in your use case, not with the sector total. One outlier makes the whole category look richer than it is for most companies.

2. Usage numbers got Hunar.AI a higher price, so measure the ones buyers recognise

Hunar.AI's valuation rose over 71% while it still made losses of Rs 5.56 crore on Rs 1.70 crore of revenue. What it could show was use: more than 1.5 crore conversations and customers such as Swiggy and Zepto. If you sell AI to businesses, track the unit your customer pays for, such as conversations handled or hires made, and keep a dated, monthly series of it.

3. Debt now sits inside equity rounds, so model the repayments

Three of the week's rounds, CureBay, Chapter Homes and TravClan, mixed equity and debt. Debt has to be repaid on a schedule whatever growth does. If a round you are negotiating includes debt, add the repayment schedule to your cash plan and check how many months of runway you have if growth stalls for two quarters.

Who should act

  • Founders raising seed or Series A this quarter — Stage-level comparisons are more useful than sector totals that one large round can distort.
  • Product leads at B2B AI startups — Hunar.AI's round shows usage metrics and named customers carry weight even before profit.
  • Finance leads at growth-stage startups — Rounds that mix equity and debt change the cash plan and the runway math.

This week

  • Pick the three rounds in this list closest to your stage and sector and note their size and lead investor.
  • Define the one usage unit your customers pay for and chart it month by month.
  • If any term sheet includes debt, add its repayment schedule to your cash plan.
  • Check that your investor list matches the funds active this week, such as Blume Ventures and Trifecta Capital.
