The Government committed ₹10,000 crore to Alternative Investment Funds (AIFs) run by SIDBI. The ₹26,900 crore is what those funds then invested in startups, so it is larger than the corpus because the funds also hold other investors' money.

How we got this number

  1. Take the figure from DPIIT's release on startup recognition for FY 2025-26 on PIB: funds supported under the scheme had invested more than ₹26,900 crore in over 1,420 startups by the end of FY 2025-26.
  2. Read the commitment from the Cabinet release of February 2026: the entire ₹10,000 crore corpus committed to 145 Alternative Investment Funds. Read the disbursal from the April 2026 release: more than ₹7,000 crore to over 135 funds.
  3. Put it next to earlier DPIIT figures: ₹25,547.98 crore as on 31 December 2025 and around ₹25,859 crore as on 31 January 2026.

What this number does not tell you

  • "Committed" is money the Government has promised to a fund. "Disbursed" is money it has handed over so far. "Invested" is what the funds have put into startups. Do not add them.
  • The April 2026 figure is given as "more than ₹26,900 crore" and the January 2026 figure as "around ₹25,859 crore", so both are rounded. Only the December 2025 figure has paise-level detail.
  • The count of startups (over 1,420) counts startups that received money, not DPIIT-recognised startups overall.
  • No figure later than the end of FY 2025-26 was found on PIB for the national total.
