ICMR Study: Drug-Resistant Infections Drive Higher Mortality and Costs

An ICMR study published in The Lancet Regional Health–Southeast Asia analyzed 1.6 lakh hospitalized patients from April 2022 to April 2025 and found drug-resistant infections significantly increase deaths and treatment costs. Healthtech builders should develop diagnostic tools and data platforms for resistance tracking; this is a regulatory and clinical priority, and early movers will embed themselves in hospital workflows before mandates force adoption.
