Arjun & Meera · Today's brief
Samsung's record run is the headline a builder should sit with this morning. Its July–September revenue hit an all-time high of 195.3 trillion won (about USD 146 billion), and it posted a fourth straight quarter of record profit, with the AI boom doing the heavy lifting. The same tailwind is visible across the hardware stack: STMicroelectronics says its quarterly profit nearly doubled and guides fourth-quarter sales above $4 billion. When the picks-and-shovels suppliers are printing money, the question for product teams is less "is AI real" and more "who in my stack is paying for compute, memory and silicon, and what does that do to my unit economics next year."
Read alongside the consulting numbers, the picture gets more interesting. The Boston Consulting Group sees AI-led services generating between $100 billion and $200 billion in net new work by 2030, which is a signal that the money is shifting toward whoever can sell outcomes rather than seats. Freshworks buying Israel-based Robusta Dev to add AI-powered incident investigation to Freshservice is the same logic at product level: incumbent SaaS shops are buying their way into agentic workflows instead of waiting to build them. Expect more of these tuck-ins, and expect founders in adjacent niches to be asked uncomfortable questions about why an incumbent can't simply absorb their feature.
Not everything is climbing. Amazon guided fourth-quarter revenue to between $240.0 billion and $247.0 billion, below the roughly $244.5 billion analysts had penciled in, a reminder that even scale players feel the pinch of a cautious consumer. Thyrocare's Q2 profit fell 68.2% year on year to ₹15.2 Cr, dragged by a ₹45 Cr impairment, which is a useful lesson for healthtech founders: diagnostics volume alone won't protect margins when acquired assets get written down. Meanwhile the crypto corner had its own shock, with Binance reporting a potential security issue, more than $2.5 billion in assets frozen, and prices sliding on Friday. Add the Enforcement Directorate's probe into alleged FEMA violations involving more than ₹4,940 Cr in unauthorised cross-border transfers, and the regulatory and custody risk around crypto rails in India is getting harder to ignore for anyone building payments or treasury features.
On the capital side, One Planet Partners and Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank are launching a Rs 3,000 Cr fund aimed at high-growth companies, the kind of cheque that signals where growth-stage conviction is heading in the energy and mobility space. What to watch this week: whether Binance's frozen assets and the ED probe start shaping how Indian exchanges and fintechs handle custody and cross-border flows, and whether your own roadmap has a clear answer to the question Freshworks just made urgent: what does your AI feature do that an incumbent can't buy in a quarter?
Samsung's July-September revenue rose to an all-time high of 195.3 trillion won (USD 146 billion). It was the company's fourth straight quarter of record profit and revenue. The results came as the AI boom lifted demand for chips. The figures were reported on 29 October 2026.
STMicroelectronics expects fourth-quarter sales above $4 billion, and its headline says quarterly profit nearly doubled. The chipmaker reported third-quarter operating profit above market expectations on Thursday. Demand from AI data centres and satellite operators added to a broader recovery in its markets. The company's outlook points to continued strength heading into the final quarter of the year.
Amazon expects fourth-quarter revenue of between $240.0 billion and $247.0 billion. Analysts had an average estimate of $244.51 billion, according to data compiled by LSEG. The company's projection was reported on 30 October 2026, and the headline frames it as below estimates.
Private equity firm One Planet Partners and Japan's Sumitomo Mitsui Trust Bank are launching a Rs 3,000 Cr fund. The fund will invest in high-growth companies across energy, mobility and manufacturing. The launch was reported on 29 October 2026.
Binance said more than $2.5 billion in assets had been frozen after it reported a potential security issue. Cryptocurrency prices fell on Friday following the announcement, with Bitcoin dropping sharply. The exchange's disclosure of the issue and the freeze on assets triggered the market decline. Further details on the security issue are awaited from the exchange.
The Enforcement Directorate is investigating alleged FEMA violations involving unauthorised cross-border fund transfers worth more than ₹4,940 Cr. The probe covers crypto platforms Mudrex and Saber.money and DeFi protocol Instadapp with its Fluid platform. ED searched three premises in Bengaluru and one in Madhya Pradesh on October 27. It says stablecoins such as USDT and USDC were used to move money outside authorised channels.
AI-led services are expected to generate between USD 100 billion and USD 200 billion in net new work by 2030, according to a Boston Consulting Group report. Technology services companies can meet most of that demand by reskilling existing employees. The global services market is expected to grow from around USD 1.6-1.7 trillion in 2025 to USD 2.2-2.4 trillion by 2030.
Thyrocare's net profit for the September quarter (Q2 FY27) fell 68.2% year on year to ₹15.2 Cr from ₹47.8 Cr. The drop came from a ₹45 Cr impairment loss on its Nueclear Healthcare investment, which it has proposed to sell for around ₹141.4 Cr. Revenue from operations grew 25.1% to ₹270.8 Cr. A shareholder postal ballot seeks approval for the divestment.
Freshworks has acquired Israel-based AI startup Robusta Dev for an undisclosed amount. The deal adds AI-powered incident investigation to its IT service management platform Freshservice. Robusta uses AI agents to diagnose outages and recommend corrective actions. Freshworks plans to integrate the technology, with engineers able to approve changes before they reach live systems.
