How we got this number

  1. Read the repo rate from the Resolution of the Monetary Policy Committee released by the RBI on 7 October 2026: the MPC voted to raise the policy repo rate by 25 basis points to 5.50%.
  2. Read the earlier rate from the RBI's resolutions for February, April, June and August 2026, each of which kept the repo rate unchanged at 5.25%.
  3. List the rate after each decision in time order, so a change shows up as a step. The rate changes only on an MPC decision day, so the latest resolution is the current rate.

What this number does not tell you

  • The repo rate is the rate at which the RBI lends to banks. Banks decide their own loan and deposit rates, and they follow a repo change with a delay.
  • The RBI decides about every two months. This page shows the rate after the 7 October 2026 decision; a later meeting will replace it.
  • The 25 basis point rise is the change on 7 October 2026 only, not a forecast of what the MPC does next.
