How we got this number

  1. Open the RBI's Weekly Statistical Supplement dated 23 October 2026 and read the 'Total Reserves' row of the Foreign Exchange Reserves table: 721016 US$ million as on 16 October 2026.
  2. Read the parts of that row from the same table: foreign currency assets 591847 and gold 105800, in US$ million.
  3. Read each earlier week from its own Weekly Statistical Supplement and put the weekly totals in time order, then divide the latest total by one thousand to show it in US$ billion.

What this number does not tell you

  • The RBI publishes this every Friday for the Friday of the week before, so the figure here is about a week old when it appears and a newer one may already be out.
  • The RBI revises weekly numbers slightly. The table says any difference between totals and parts is due to rounding.
  • Reserves are not a measure of the RBI's spending on any one day; this page reports the stock the RBI shows for the Friday, not what caused the weekly change.
