How we got this number

  1. Take the FDI equity inflow figure for the financial year FY26 from DPIIT's data, as reported by the press on the day of release: US$ 58.84 billion, or Rs. 5,16,936 crore.
  2. Compare it with the same period of FY25: US$ 50,018 million, or Rs. 4,21,929 crore.
  3. Add the earlier year from the news report of that time: US$ 44.42 billion in FY24, the first reading of that year.

What this number does not tell you

  • We could not open DPIIT's own factsheet (the site refused the request), so the figures come from news and data-portal reports of the DPIIT release. Confidence is medium for that reason.
  • This is equity inflow only. DPIIT's larger "total FDI" number also adds reinvested earnings and other capital, and the two should not be mixed.
  • DPIIT revises earlier years as late reports come in, so the FY24 figure here is the first reading and may be different today.
  • FDI equity is counted when the money comes in, not when a company is set up or a project starts.
