How we got this number

  1. Take 'Real GDP or GDP at Constant Prices' for Q1 (April-June) of FY 2026-27 from MoSPI's quarterly press note: ₹81.36 lakh crore, against ₹75.46 lakh crore a year earlier, which MoSPI states as growth of 7.8%.
  2. Read nominal GDP and gross value added (GVA) from the same note: nominal GDP ₹88.27 lakh crore (up 10.3%), real GVA ₹73.82 lakh crore (up 8.2%).
  3. Put it next to the earlier quarters from MoSPI's growth-rate table: 6.9% in April-June 2025, then 8.3%, 8.0% and 7.8% in the next three quarters.

What this number does not tell you

  • These are first estimates for the quarter. MoSPI says improved data coverage and revisions in input data will lead to revisions later.
  • GDP is now measured on a new series with base year 2022-23. Figures are not comparable with the older series.
  • The growth rates for the July-September 2025, October-December 2025 and January-March 2026 quarters are as published on 5th June, 2026. MoSPI updated its quarterly series with the Q1 2026-27 release, so these may since have changed slightly.
  • 'Quarter' means a quarter of the financial year: Q1 is April-June.
