How many SIP accounts are there in India?

History

AMFI counts SIP accounts that contributed in the month, not people. One investor can run several SIPs, so the number of investors is lower than the number of accounts.

How we got this number

1. Read the 'Number of contributing SIP accounts (crore)' row in AMFI's SIP trend table for September 2026: 10.06 crore, against 10.02 crore in August.
2. Check it against the text of the same AMFI note, which says active SIP accounts rose to 10.06 crore in September.
3. Compare earlier months in the same row: 9.72 crore in March, 9.65 in April, 9.64 in May, 9.78 in June and 9.90 in July 2026.
4. Divide the month's SIP money, ₹32,490 crore, by the 10.06 crore accounts to get an average of about ₹3,230 per account.

What this number does not tell you

• This is accounts, not investors. Someone with three SIPs counts as three accounts.
• The ₹3,230 average is simple division. Many accounts put in less and some put in much more.
• The SIP amount of ₹32,490 crore includes domestic fund-of-funds, as AMFI notes. The rupee amount has its own page, linked below.
