How we got this number

  1. Read the running total from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare reply in the Rajya Sabha, published by PIB on 4 August 2026: 12.69 crore hospital admissions worth ₹1.92 lakh crore, as on 30 June 2026.
  2. Put it beside the Ministry's earlier replies: 8.39 crore admissions as of 30 November 2024, more than 9.84 crore in a Lok Sabha reply of 25 July 2025, and 11.69 crore as on 28 February 2026.
  3. Take the card count from the 17 March 2026 release (43.52 crore cards created as on 28 February 2026), because the August 2026 release gave admissions but no card count.

What this number does not tell you

  • These are hospital admissions, not people. One person can be admitted more than once, and the Ministry does not say how many different people the 12.69 crore covers.
  • "Authorised" means the scheme approved the admission. It is not the same as claims paid.
  • The July 2025 point is the figure in a reply given on 25 July 2025. The release prints "more than 9.84 crore" and no "as on" date, so the chart places it at July 2025.
  • The latest card count we could read on a PIB page is 43.52 crore as on 28 February 2026, so it is older than the admissions figure.
