How we got this number

  1. Open the Ministry of Finance release on 11 years of PM Mudra Yojana (PIB, 8 April 2026) and read the table of loans sanctioned each year.
  2. Take the Total row: 57.79 crore loans and ₹40.07 lakh crore, which matches the Finance Minister's statement in the same release.
  3. Leave 2025-26 out of the yearly trend: the table marks it as counted only up to 27 March 2026, so it is not a full year.

What this number does not tell you

  • The release says "sanctioned" in the Finance Minister's statement and the table, and "disbursed" in its headline. We use "sanctioned" because that is what the table counts; the release does not say how much of the amount has actually been paid out.
  • The table counts loans sanctioned, not borrowers. The release does not say how many different people took them.
  • The 2025-26 row is a part year (up to 27 March 2026), so the totals will rise once the full year is reported.
  • Loan sizes are capped at ₹20 lakh. The release lists four bands, Shishu, Kishor, Tarun and TarunPlus; it does not split the total count by band, so this page does not either.
